(Lindenwold, NJ) – Freeholder Susan Shin Angulo, liaison to the Camden County Department of Public Works, has been informed by South Jersey Gas that part of East Atlantic Avenue will be closed in Somerdale beginning Monday, Sept. 11. The road will be shut down for construction which is part of the Camden County Upgrade Project.
Beginning at 7 a.m. on Monday, Sept. 11, SJ Gas is scheduled to close southbound non-local traffic on East Atlantic Avenue between Warwick Road and Somerdale Road. Motorists will be directed along the following pre-planned detour route:
East Atlantic Avenue southbound detour:
- Motorists traveling southbound on East Atlantic Avenue to turn right on Warwick Road
- Turn left on Somerdale Road
- Turn right back onto to East Atlantic Avenue
Northbound traffic will remain open throughout construction.
“This is phase one of a larger project that will expand throughout the area and last until the early months of 2018,” Shin Angulo said. “Motorists should try to stay up to date with when new phases will begin and plan their routes accordingly. Extra congestion and shifting traffic patterns can be expected while work is underway.”
The Camden County Upgrade Project will upgrade gas lines in the area to improve service reliability, especially on the coldest days of the year when gas use for heating is at its peak. Phase one of the project is expected to last until mid-October. Precise timing of the work is subject to change due to weather or other factors. Information regarding the project, detours, and completion dates will be periodically updated online at www.camdencounty.com and https://www.southjerseygas.com/construction.
