In honor of Mental Health Awareness Month, the Board of Commissioners held a walk to show solidarity with those impacted by mental health challenges. This event was held in collaboration with the Prosecutor’s Office, the Camden County Addiction Awareness Task Force, the Governor’s Council on Alcohol and Drug Abuse and the Camden County Municipal Alliance Program.

“Talking about mental health is still difficult for a lot of people. There is an element of shame or embarrassment attached with the topic, when there should not be,” Commissioner Virginia Betteridge said. “So, it is our goal that through events such as the Mental Health Walk, that we can raise awareness about breaking down the stigma surrounding mental health and show people that help, and resources are available.

Commissioner Betteridge also presented a proclamation to Michele Kidd, founder of Nate’s Story, a nonprofit organization aimed at breaking the stigma surrounding grief, trauma and mental health issues.
