For months, an eye sore of a former gas station has been shuttered and falling apart located off the westbound lanes of Admiral Wilson Boulevard. The property has been the target of graffiti, illegal dumping, squatting and other criminal activities in its neglected state. On Tuesday, city leaders came together to call out the absentee landlord and charge the owner, Pontus Capital Shell Portfolio LLC, with the cleanup and maintenance.
The property continues to rack up code violations while becoming a landmark for blight throughout the city. The city and the county will be consolidating several departments on site to bring the property back into compliance while violations will be tallied, and a lien will be placed on the property to pay for the public services.
“I want to commend the mayor, city council and all of the public servants who will be on site to send a clear message to this unscrupulous property owner that this will not be accepted in Camden City,” Commissioner Al Dyer said. “I grew up in the city and work here and I know that there are individuals that own property in Camden and have never stepped foot in the city. It’s clear from the general disregard of this property and the residents that live around it we needed to take proactive measures.”
