As part of the Camden County Police Department’s continuing community engagement through its Village Initiative, the department hosted a 32-person Esports tournament for the game Super Smash Bros at the Kroc Center. The top three finishers in the tournament received a Game Stop gift card.
Additionally, the department hosted its regular HoopIt Up Friday night open gym where kids could play basketball and access resources for mentoring and job information for interested teenagers.
HoopIt Up is a weekend night where at-risk youth can find the comforts of a warm gym, food, mentors and police officers who want to build bonds and play basketball. It was created and facilitated by Capt. Vivian Coley, the Camden County Youth Services Commission and stakeholders throughout the city.
