(Lindenwold, NJ) – As a winter storm has started moving through Camden County and the South Jersey region on Monday morning, the Camden County’s Department of Public Works (DPW) is working to clear the county’s 1,200 lane miles of road.
“Our crews were prepped and ready to go this morning to ensure all of our roadways were treated and cleared for the incoming storm,” Commissioner Al Dyer, liaison to the DPW. “Snow is expected to accumulate steadily as the day goes on and our crews will continue working to keep the roads safe.”
Snowfall will be the steadiest in the late morning and midday, with more moderate snow rates at times. A majority of the accumulation will come before 3 p.m. but there may be another steadier round that comes in the early evening. Parts of Camden County may see upwards of four inches of snow accumulation or slightly higher, with two inches of accumulation expected towards Philadelphia. A hard freeze-up is also overnight Monday as temperatures will fall well below freezing.
“Please be cautious if you have to travel on the roads today,” Dyer continued. “There is always the possibility for black ice, especially after the temperatures fall overnight so please slow down and give yourself plenty of time to get to your destination.”
At the public works complex in Lindenwold, more than 100 pieces of equipment are available to keep county roadways passable. When the weather becomes treacherous, personnel will be dispatched to 12 winter maintenance districts to salt and plow 1,200 lane miles of roadways across Camden County. The county’s response plan calls for crews to be dispatched only to the zones where they are needed.
