2025 Camden County MLK Freedom Medal Winner

Andrew Passalacqua, a high school student at Bishop Eustace Preparatory School, is making a meaningful difference in South Jersey through his service project, Crayons for Courts. Motivated by witnessing the stress children face in family courtrooms, Andrew launched the initiative to provide a sense of comfort and joy to young children during difficult times.

After observing a child as young as five years old endure the anxiety of a courtroom setting, Andrew was inspired to act. He raised nearly $3,000 to purchase over 6,000 packets of crayons, 3,000 coloring books, 2,000 activity books, and stickers. His first donation was delivered to the Camden County Courthouse, with plans to expand Crayons for Courtsinto a nonprofit benefiting children throughout New Jersey.

Andrew’s goal is to bring a smile to their faces, even if it’s just making their day better for 20 minutes. His determination to make a difference demonstrates the power of compassion and community action, proving that one idea can transform lives.

Andrew’s work through Crayons for Courts is a testament to his leadership and unwavering commitment to supporting vulnerable children and creating a brighter future.
