(Blackwood, NJ) – In a first of its kind initiative, an effort to prepare the children of the county for school this upcoming school year in the fall, the Camden County Department of Health and Human Services and healthcare partners will be offering free vaccinations for uninsured children and children with only Medicaid Part A at various schools and community centers throughout the summer. This program being led by public health professionals will provide access and opportunity for families to ensure an identified barrier is removed for children to attend school.

At these clinics, children can receive the following required vaccinations:

  • Ages 4 to 6 DTap, polio, and MMR vaccines,
  • Ages 11 and 12 Tdap and meningococcal vaccines
  • Age 16 can receive meningococcal vaccines.

“First and foremost, these vaccines are a matter of public safety, and our best resource to prevent the spread of diseases, but as important, in order for us to get 100% attendance in the classroom we need to make sure everyone has their required immunizations,” said Commissioner Virginia Betteridge, liaison to the Department of Health and Human Services. “We will not let insurance be a barrier for the health and wellness of our children and we hope that our families take advantage of these clinics to prepare for school this fall.”

At the vaccination drives, children can receive various required vaccinations as well as speak with representatives from the Osbourne Family Health Center to assist in insurance applications for families. For children behind on vaccines, the Health Department making appointments for families to get caught up to date with all vaccines at one of our health first care and wellness centers.

“Last year, we had hundreds of families contact us about getting their required vaccinations in the late fall,” Betteridge continued. “We felt these clinics could put us in a forward leaning position and assist parents prior to the start of the school year.”
