(Blackwood, NJ) — Camden County is currently under a Code Yellow Fine Particles Action Day Alert due to smoke traveling from wildfires in eastern Canada. This alert means that the air is considered acceptable but sensitive members of the public – including those with heart or lung disease, the elderly and young people – may experience health effects.

“The air quality has improved considerably from the last two days, so all restrictions placed on outdoor activities have been lifted,” said Dr. Paschal Nwako, Camden County’s Health Officer. “However, there is still moderate pollution in the air, so we still recommend residents to remain vigilant and monitor any respiratory symptoms. And for those who are classified as sensitive members of the public and are sensitive to air pollution, consider limiting your time outside.”

The Air Quality Index for most of Friday is expected to remain between 51 and 100 but is expected to improve around 5:30 p.m.

The Health Department and the Office of Emergency Management will continue to monitor the air quality during this time and provide updates as they become available.
