(Lindenwold, NJ) – The New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT) will hold a Public Information Center (PIC) to inform local residents, officials, and the business community about the proposed plan for the White Horse Pike (Route 30), Gibbsboro Road (CR 686) project. Residents are encouraged to actively participate by providing comments at the meeting, by mail, or by email.
The Meeting:
The Public Information Center will be held at the Borough of Clementon Community Center, 165 Gibbsboro Road, Clementon, NJ on Thursday, October 4, 2018 from 6-8 PM. You will have an opportunity to review exhibits, ask questions, and discuss issues with NJDOT staff members. Property owners with rental units are advised that tenants are also invited and encouraged to participate.
Background:
The Route 30 and Gibbsboro Road intersection currently has the highest crash rate among signalized intersections in the state. More than 100 left-turn crashes were reported at the intersection in a 3-year period, accounting for more than 70% of the total crashes at the intersection. The percentage of left turn crashes well exceeds the statewide average of
10%. Lack of left turn lanes on Route 30 result in poor sight distance, which is a contributing factor to many of the left-turn crashes. The intersection is anticipated to operate under failing traffic conditions with excessive delays by the design year.
Proposed Project:
The purpose of the project is to address safety and operational deficiencies and reduce the crash
frequency at the intersection. The project is expected to begin construction in 2023. Proposed improvements include the following:
- Widen Route 30 to add left turn lanes on Route 30 eastbound and westbound at the intersection. Two (2) through lanes in each direction will be maintained on Route 30.
- Provide a protected-only left turn phase for Route 30 eastbound and westbound at the intersection.
- Widen Gibbsboro Road to include two (2) through lanes and one (1) left-turn lane in both the northbound and southbound directions.
- Provide ADA-compliant sidewalks and curb ramps within the project limits.
- Implement signage to restrict left turns into/out of California Avenue, Holly Street, Pennsylvania Avenue and Franklin Avenue from Route 30.
- Improve drainage by adding new inlets and upgrading pipe sizes to increase the capacity of the existing drainage systems. Construct water quality structures and a basin for water quantity to meet NJDEP storm water management requirements.
Estimated Schedule:
Preliminary Engineering and Final Design is scheduled for 2019-2022. Construction is anticipated to commence in 2022.
