(Gloucester Township) – The Camden County Animal Shelter (CCAS) has a developed a new program to enrich the daily lives of shelter pets while providing a way for dog lovers to spend some quality time with man’s best friend. Approved patrons can now “Rent-A-Dog” for one to three hours during the day, whether it is for a hike, a walk in the park, or just to cuddle on your lunch break.
“Many people would love to own a dog but for one reason or another are unable to. This is a great opportunity for you to enjoy the company of a dog and de-stress while giving them some much needed time out of the shelter,” said Freeholder Jonathan Young, liaison to the Camden County Animal Shelter. “The program was announced on social media on April 25, and within hours three shelter dogs were taken out for long walks. One of those dogs, Cassandra, is a four-year-old mixed breed with perfect leash manners that was happy to get out while waiting for her forever home.”
The CCAS strives to keep dogs as comfortable as possible, but time out of the shelter is vital to both the mental and physical health of the dogs in their care. By renting a dog you will help that pet find a home and greatly improve the dog’s quality of life.
You must be 18 years old with valid a driver’s license to qualify for program, complete a dog questionnaire and sign a foster care agreement, as well as go through a dog handling session with trained staff and volunteers.
