Candlelight Vigil

Saturday November 4th. 2018
2PM- 5PM

Scottish Rite Theater
Collingswood

The Candlelight Vigil will bring a sense of community to the battle of addiction. People in public service, public health, and within the community will come together to share memories with people in recovery, still fighting the battle, and those left behind. The Vigil will include speakers, service tables, grief counselors, and a dessert reception. Let’s erase the stigma and advocate for change.

Help raise awareness of the crisis we’re facing in our communities. Let’s erase the stigma and advocate for change.

Featured Speakers

Bill Guy:

Bill Guy, a resident of Norman, Oklahoma, is a former high school and college teacher of English and journalism. He works in communications and organizing for the Oklahoma Education Association, a National Education Association state affiliate cohort of the New Jersey Education Association. He serves on the board of directors with Parents Helping Parents, Inc., an Oklahoma-based nonprofit that provides information, resources, education and support for parents with children of any age who struggle with substance use issues. He is a Partnership for Drug-Free Kids trained peer parent coach. Bill lost his son Chrisin September, 2016 at the age of 34, after some 20 years of struggling with addiction.

Special Performance – Matt Butler:

Matt Butler first gained notoriety as the lead singer of the New York based band Reckless Sons, who released two EPs, the latter with legendary record producer David Kahne (Lana Del Ray, The Strokes, Sublime, Paul McCartney).  The turning point in Butler’s career came, however, when he confronted his lifelong struggle with alcoholism and substance abuse.  After getting sober, Butler recorded his debut solo album Reckless Son, a poignant confession of his battle with addiction and his inspiring path to recovery.

Memory Wall.

At the vigil, we will have a Memory Wall where guests can share memories, photos and messages.  Please bring your photos, notes, poems, quotes, thoughts or anything else to be posted on the board.
