O.A.T.S.
Program
|
The O.A.T.S. Program, which stands
for Older Adult Traffic Safety,
was instituted to help the older citizens of the community to find
safer ways of travel, such as alternate forms of transportation, and
general safety tips on their own driving.
Older drivers drive fewer miles than their younger counterpats, but
they tend to have more accidents per mile drive than any other age
group except the 16 to 24 year olds. As pedestrians, older adults
are in the highest risk group too. In fact, older adults are the victims
in one of every three pedestrian deaths.
- Last year 31% of drivers and passengers
killed in motor vehicle crashes were over
55.
- Last year 44% of pedestrians killed
were over 55.
