Camden
County Freeholders have authorized acquisition of 78.2 acres adjoining
New Brooklyn Park in Winslow Township.
Freeholder
Jeffrey L. Nash, the governing body’s liaison to the Open
Space Preservation Trust Advisory Committee, said the board unanimously
approved acquisition of the acreage for $485,000 from a private
developer, New Brooklyn Associates, during the Dec. 18 freeholder
meeting.
“This
puts the total number of preserved acres at 1,838 and another step
closer to our goal of preserving 2,000 acres throughout the county
by 2010,” Nash said. He noted that a significant portion of
the preserved land, 517 acres, is farmland.
These
acquisitions have been made with funds from the Camden County Open
Space, Recreation, Farmland and Historical Preservation Trust Fund,
approved by the voters in a 1998 referendum. Nash said that since
the first acquisition in 2000, 49 parcels, including the 78 acres
to expand New Brooklyn Park, have been added to the list.
Noting
that the Open Space program is a collaborative process, Nash suggested
property owners who wish to have farm land or other vacant properties
considered for preservations should contact the Camden County Division
of Open Space and Farmland Preservation at 856 858 5241 for an application
or more information.
