For Immediate Release: December 5, 2008
Contacts: KEN SHUTTLERWORTH 609-472-8837

EVENT: New Outpatient VA Facility Announcement

WHEN: Monday, December 8, 2008

TIME: 3:30 p.m.

WHERE: Cooper University Hospital, new Pavilion lobby, One Cooper Plaza, Camden, N.J.

MEDIA NOTE - VISUALS: Several leaders of veterans organizations will join officials of the hospital, the VA and Camden County for the announcement. They will be available for interviews after the formal announcement. Also, the site of the actual annex is within walking distance of the Cooper pavilion and it will be open to the veterans and to the media for tours after the announcement.

Explanation of Services:

Veterans living in southern N.J., will soon have better health care access at a new Veterans Affairs Community Based Outpatient Annex (CBOA) located in the new Camden County Improvement Authority garage retail space on Broadway in Camden, NJ. Once a lease agreement is reached, the new clinic will become an annex of the Philadelphia Veterans Affairs Medical Center, which serves more than 350,000 veterans in an eight-county area of Pennsylvania and New Jersey.

Health care services slated to be provided at this facility will include primary care, annual physical exams, preventative health services, immunizations, routine lab work and the drawing of special lab specimens for testing at the VA, EKG’s, patient education, nursing care, and mental health diagnostic and treatment services.

This facility will provide local veterans with immediate improvement in primary care and with continuity of care at a convenient location. Because of the availability of better outpatient health care, hospital length of stays should decrease and patients will receive consistent post-discharge follow-up care closer to their homes. The Philadelphia VA Medical Center also operates community clinics in Horsham, Pa., Philadelphia, Gloucester County, N.J., and Fort Dix, N.J.

This facility is located close to Camden’s Walter Rand Transportation Center near PATCO's High Speedline Broadway Station which makes it conveniently accessible for area veterans.
