Woman
Two Thousand One, a community organization committed to positive
change in the City of Camden will honor Freeholder Riletta Cream
for her lifetime of public service to city residents as both an
educator and an elected official.
“She
has been a force for good in the community for a long time,”
said Ms. Evelyn Morton, president of the Women Two Thousand and
One and resident of the city’s Parkside section. She said
the organization is comprised of women dedicated to bringing about
positive change in Camden, especially within the educational and
political processes.
Ms.
Morton cited Ms. Cream’s many years of service as a teacher
and administrator, culminating in her tenure as principal of Camden
High School in the 1970s and 1980s.
A Camden
native now living in Winslow Township, Ms. Cream joined the Board
of Freeholders in 1994, several years after she retired from her
storied career in public education. She was reelected to another
three-year term last Nov. 4.
In
addition to honoring Ms. Cream, Ms. Morton said the group also will
honor Donald “Ducky” Birts, a businessman and philanthropist,
and Ms. Hazel Nimmo, also a former educator and former “First
Lady” of the Tenth Street Baptist Church. The honors will
be bestowed during the organization’s 11th annual jazz brunch
on Dec. 6 at Aulettos Catering in Almonesson. Tickets, at $40, are
available by calling 856 541 6273
