Assembly
Speaker Joseph J. Roberts Jr. administered the oath of office to
Ian Leonard on Tuesday night to serve the unexpired term of Freeholder
Joseph Ripa on the Camden County Board of Freeholders.
At
32, Leonard is one of the youngest freeholders in New Jersey and
will seek a full three-year term in the November election. A resident
of Camden, Leonard has been Roberts’ chief of staff in his
home office in Brooklawn since 2002. He worked as a legislative
aide for three years prior to becoming chief of staff..
“I
am honored to be part of the Camden County Board of Freeholders
and am eager to play a part in maintaining the quality of services
to constituents without increasing taxes,” Leonard said. “The
fact that they cut the tax levy for three consecutive years is remarkable,
particularly in these hard economic times.”
“I
know from my position with Speaker Roberts that the number one concern
on the minds of New Jersey residents is the heavy burden of property
taxes and I plan to help ease that burden in my position on the
board,” Leonard added.
“We’re
thrilled to have him on the board for he is in tune with the board’s
commitment to reduction of the tax levy, plus he brings a fresh
perspective to county government,” said Freeholder Louis Cappelli
Jr. in a statement distributed after the installation ceremony at
the Camden County Boat House in Pennsauken.
Leonard
is a staff sergeant with the 177th Fighter Wing of the Air National
Guard based in Pomona. He also holds a bachelor’s degree and
an MBA from Rutgers University and serves as vice president of the
Rutgers Camden Alumni Association.
