The Camden County Freeholder Board is a proud participant in Summer
HEAT (Help Employ Area Teens), the program that gives at-risk youth
between the ages of 14 and 25 the opportunity to get real-world
work experience, and gives Camden County businesses pre-screened,
fresh talent to fill their summer jobs.
“Our
Camden County One Stop Center has worked diligently with each of
the schools in Camden City to identify participants,” said
Freeholder Director Louis Cappelli, Jr. “Orientation and training
sessions have been scheduled at the schools and at the Camden County
One Stop Center at 2600 Mt. Ephraim Avenue.”
An
initiative of Governor Jon Corzine, through the Department of Labor
and Workforce Development, the Summer HEAT program already has placed
350 participants in summer jobs across Camden County.
To
launch the program, the Governor attended the Camden City Schools
Job Fair, held at Camden High School, on May 29. The event brought
students from Camden High, Brimm Medical Arts, Jerrothia Riggs and
Woodrow Wilson High together with area employers offering summer
opportunities.
“The
Camden River Sharks, Clementon Amusement Park, Adventure Aquarium,
Live Nation Bellmawr Industrial and employers along the Billion
Dollar Mile in Cherry Hill are among those offering jobs paying
up to $10.00 an hour,” explained Freeholder Director Cappelli.
“All positions are for at least 20 hours a week.”
As
part of the program, participants receive employment training that
includes a component on financial literacy. Transportation to worksites
is being provided by the South Jersey Transportation Authority.
Employers
interested in participating in the job bank should contact the office
of Freeholder Director Louis Cappelli Jr. at 856-225-5451.
