Exhibits on recycling, alternate fuels for automobiles, environmentally friendly options for household cleaning, hybrid cars, cleaning solutions and energy-saving techniques are among tips and ideas available at the Camden County EcoFair in Haddon Lake Park on Sunday, May 18.

Fourteen exhibitors have signed up, and four workshops are scheduled for this special event that will take place in conjunction with the free Mamapalooza Rocks Mother Earth concert. Mamapalooza takes place in the nearby Norcross-McLaughlin Memorial Dell in Haddon Heights from 1 to 5 p.m. The concert will feature five performances by musicians who also happen to be moms.

“This will be a celebration of Mother Earth in Camden County,” said Freeholder Jeffrey L. Nash, liaison to the Camden County Division of Environmental Affairs and the volunteer Environmental Commission.

Nash said there also will be activities for children, including an appearance by DyAnne DiSalvo, an award-winning children’s author and illustrator who wrote a book about legendary grocery, John’s Friendly Market, in Haddon Heights. She will meet and chat with children and their parents.

Children and their parents also get a chance to talk with Jennifer Morgan, award-winning author of the Universe Stories. “Mom” artists will also have there art displayed near the Mamapalooza concert stage. A children’s tent will feature crafts made from materials, recycled Crayola art, and the creation of a “rain stick” from old paper towel tubes stuffed with rice and dried beans to simulate the sound of falling rain.

Nash said the exhibitors include the Camden County Master Gardener Program, which will provide information on native drought resistant plants and creation of a butterfly garden with a workshop on how to develop a backyard rain garden to save water. The Camden County Environmental Affairs/Open Space and Farmland Preservation Program will focus on recycling requirements and techniques and provide a workshop on recyclable items. The Camden County Environmental Commission, in association with the Association of New Jersey Environmental Commissions, will provide tips on “going green” while Cross County Connection will provide insight into alternative modes of transportation such as biking.

Other exhibitors include The Delaware Riverkeepers Network; Holman Automotive will display hybrid cars and alternative fuel vehicles; Home Depot will exhibit its Eco Options household products and services; the New Jersey Clean Energy Program will provide literature on how to conserve energy under the state-sponsored initiative; and PSE&G will provide information on its energy-saving programs and alternative energy sources.

Also exhibiting will be New Jersey Conservation Foundation, New Jersey Environmental Federation, Saddler’s Woods Conservation Association, the New Jersey chapter of the US Green Building Council, and Organic Home.

The concert kicks off at 1 p.m. with Miss Amy and her Rockin’ Children’s Music; Toni Topps and Crystal Wright at 1:40, followed by Sisters3 and Deb Chamberlin and a special performance by South Jersey’s own Grey Eye Glances will close the concert starting at 4 o’clock.
