Camden County Upgrades 911
Dispatch Systems to Improve Safety of Responding Firemen
For Immediate Release: March 23, 2009
Contacts: KEN SHUTTLEWORTH
In
an effort spearheaded by the Camden County Board of Freeholders,
County firemen will now be provided with vital safety information
when responding to a fire scene. Deployed at the county’s
Emergency Communications Center, the system will identify gas and
electric shut off points, detail chemicals, if any, stored at the
site, and provide fire hydrant locations in proximity to a fire.
The
software system, which has a price tag of $399,455, was developed
with input from the Camden County Fire Chiefs Association and Director
of Public Safety, Herbert Steelman. The contract was awarded to
Iowa based ACS Firehouse Software.
“Fire-fighters
will receive all relevant information prior to arrival at the scene
via the new technology,” said Freeholder Joseph Ripa, the
seven-member Freeholder Board’s liaison to the Department
of Public Safety. “Access to this information will minimize
the risk of injury by making firemen more fully aware of what they
face prior to their arrival on scene.”
Ripa
also indicated that a similar system was installed approximately
two years ago to help police officers in the county responding to
911 calls.
