For Immediate Release: February 13, 2009
Contacts: KEN SHUTTLEWORTH (609) 472-8837
Camden County Freeholders have asked interested
citizens to comment on a proposed Bicycle Trail Plan, starting on
Wednesday, Feb. 18, at the Somerdale Municipal Building.
Two other meetings have been scheduled –
Feb. 24 at the Lindenwold Community Center and Feb. 25 at the Berlin
Borough Community Center – to provide additional opportunities
to comment, according to Freeholder Jeffrey L. Nash, liaison to
the county’s division of environmental affairs.
In addition to county planners, Nash said representatives
of the Delaware Valley Regional Planning Commission will be on hand
for the meetings, which begin at 7 p.m.
“The plan identifies a proposed network of
interconnected on-road and off-road trails and bicycle lanes within
10 central communities in the county – Berlin Township, Berlin
Borough, Clementon, Gibbsboro, Hi-Nella, Laurel Springs, Lindenwold,
Somerdale, Stratford and Voorhees,” Nash said.
The plan identifies proposed streets and roads
to be incorporated into the network as well as lands to be acquired.
Funded through a $20,000 Smart Growth Grant from the Association
of New Jersey Environmental Commissions, Nash said the proposal
is a companion to the county’s Open Space Plan in that the
trail network utilizes the proposed county greenway, as identified
in the Open Space Plan, to the fullest extent possible.
