For Immediate Release: February 10, 2009
Contacts: KEN SHUTTLEWORTH (609) 472-8837

State Senators Dana Redd of Camden and Loretta Weinberg of Bergen County will share the keynote speaker’s podium at the 10th annual Women’s Health Conference. Both speakers, prominent champions for women’s issues in the New Jersey legislature, will address government’s role as it relates to an important theme of this year’s conference: Coping with Economic Issues.

The conference takes place from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, March 7, at Eastern Regional High School in Voorhees Township.

“We also will have lots of fun with classes such as Classical American Belly Dance and Zumba – Latin Dance Aerobics,” said Freeholder Carmen Rodriguez who oversees planning of the conference as the governing body’s liaison to the Department of Health and Human Services.

“Plus, of course, most of the day’s 64 workshops and seminars will focus on serious concerns such as Everything You Need to Know About Breast Cancer, and Childhood Obesity,” Ms. Rodriguez added. “One seminar is entitled A Woman and Her Credit and What Every Woman Should Know About Social Security.

Ms. Rodriguez said the main role of Sens. Redd and Weinberg will be to provide information about programs currently available through state, county and local levels of government that can assist women and their families obtain affordable health care coverage.

Concerning the current financial climate, “Mrs. Weinberg has particular insight on coping with the economic crisis after having been victimized by the Ponzi scheme allegedly perpetrated by financial advisor Bernard Madoff. It stripped the 73-year-old grandmother of a $1.3 million nest egg left by her late husband.”

Freeholder Rodriguez urged women to register quickly for the workshops because they fill up quickly. Signing up on Camdencounty.com is the best option, she added. Also, the website includes a detailed schedule of all workshops, with information about presenters.

In addition to the workshops, breakfast and lunch will be provided to registered attendees and there will be approximately 100 informational booths in the exhibit hall.
