On Thursday, the Camden County Board of Commissioners, in partnership with the Camden County Police department, Cooper University Health Care and Subaru, hosted the yearly Camden Pride Walk.

“This is a day for us to appreciate our oneness as a community,” said Commissioner Director Louis Cappelli, Jr. “We look forward to this event every year as it is a time for us to come together to support our LGBTQ+ friends here in Camden County.”

Amenities included food, giveaways, and live music.

The origins of LGBTQ+ Pride Month can be traced back to the 1969 Stonewall riots, that started on June 28, 1969. The first Pride marches started the following year, on June 28, 1970, but it wasn’t until 1999 that President Bill Clinton declared June Pride Month in the United States. The month serves as a celebration of love, diversity and acceptance while commemorating the years of struggle and hardship those in the community have faced in the fight for equality.
